New dates for Adult sessions are detailed below but of particular note is a brand new Dressmaking Stitchclub starting in November for mothers and daughters (we’re not really that sexist, boys are welcome too!). I am also excited to announce that StitchClub is to be an Arts Award Centre. We have had a number of enquiries about parties recently and I’ve listed some of the options we have – and Christina and I have been developing a new idea for a great fashion party and will have full details in November.
Mother and Daughter Introduction to Dress making
Starting 13 November
Start by constructing a skirt pattern tailored to your own measurements and make up a calico skirt to test your pattern. Then you will learn how to make the skirt up in your own fabric. You will learn about measuring and fitting a pattern to your shape, fabric, fabric direction and how to make your skirt a success. Suitable for mums and daughters with some sewing knowledge.
The tutor is Christina Verden of The Nordic Make Lounge
Tuesday’s 6.30-8.00 13 November — 18 December (6 weeks)
Cost £25 per session per pair, payable in advance for all sessions. If you do not have a mother or daughter to come along with the cost is £15 per session.
All materials and equipment included EXCEPT most people prefer to select their own fabric to make their finished skirt. This will be discussed in the first few sessions.
I am pleased to be able to announce that Stitch! will be offering the opportunity to complete an Arts Award with us from January 2013. Sam has recently qualified as an Arts Awards Advisor for Bronze and Silver Awards. As well as developing and expanding a Young Person’s appreciation of the arts (which Stitchclub already strives to celebrate) the Arts Award includes elements of leadership which are recognised on the QCF (Qualifications and Credit Framework) which is useful when applying for further education and employment.
Arts Award supports young people to develop as artists and arts leaders. Young people aged 7-25 of all abilities and interests can gain an Arts Award through any arts, media or cultural activity. Through Arts Award, children and young people can get recognition for their artistic achievements and enjoyment of the arts. Arts Award has five levels, four of which are accredited on the QCF (Qualifications and Credit Framework). StitchClub will be initially offer Bronze and Silver awards (and soon Gold, if there is sufficient interest). Each award assesses personal creative development and helps to prepare young people for further education and employment. Young people develop their art form knowledge and understanding, alongside their creative, communication and leadership skills. Arts Award is managed by Trinity College London in association with Arts Council England, for more information, visit www.artsaward.org.uk.

By the end of the workshop you should feel sufficiently confident to go home and get started on your own machine and you will have a lovely tote bag and zip purse.
